Recent Media Coverage of Electric City Detatchment Marine Corps League

The Electric City Detachment of the Marine Corps League is soliciting donations in order to finance he construction of new headquarters. Unfortunately, after ten years of occupying a building which was donated by the Galesi Group we must move in order to permit the development of their land. We will have to acquire a new home by November of 2006 in order to conduct our meetings and plan our organizational functions.

Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America the Marine Corps League was incorporated on January 5th 1937. The Electric City Detachment was organized July 1973, as an Integral unit of the Marine Corps League, under section 402 of the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law.

We were organized to promote and cultivate social intercourse and fellowship among Veterans of the United States Marine Corps. We serve many causes including helping our Veterans at the V.A. Hospital, mailing needed items to our troops overseas, memorial services at funerals and as color guards for civic gatherings, the Trike Program for Special Needs Children, Northwood Kids, The Bethesda House, sponsoring other charitable events and the Toys for Tots program. This past Christmas Season, our Detachment collected almost 14, 000 toys which were then sorted and bundled for distribution by the United States Marine Corps Reserve. We are very concerned that next year if we fail to relocate our home, we will be unable to continue with this program.

Our modest income is earmarked to support the charitable causes we have undertaken and the expenses required to maintain our building. Since our income will not support a mortgage loan, major contributions from supporters will be required to finance, either new construction or the major renovation of an existing building. In anticipation of this we have commenced a Development Fund Drive seeking contributions from our 240 members, and the local community. We estimate that we will require a minimum of $350,000.00 to buy land and build to our specifications. As we are a tax exempt organization, a contribution is a tax deduction, and any amount would be appreciated. If you decide to contribute, please make check payable to the MCL BUILDING FUND, and mail to:
